About the Voyage
Welcome to the Voyage to Ms. Verna’s. My name is Rajone, and I’m a 30-something, born and raised in the heart of Brooklyn by my mother, who immigrated from Jamaica with little more than a dream and a relentless work ethic.
She built a life for my brother and me here in New York City. She taught me the importance of stretching a dollar, giving back, and has shown me that with dedication and persistence, you can make your dreams come true.
Now, I’m on a mission to build something for us back in Jamaica: to reclaim a piece of the homeland she left behind.. I’ll be sharing the highs and lows of buying land in Jamaica while living abroad. You’ll see my visits to land in different parishes, finding a good real estate agent, a reputable lawyer, how to apply for a mortgage, and building my dream eco-friendly, adults-only, bed & breakfast and micro-farm!
The Backstory
Where Dream Began
In 2019 my fiancé and I were married and honeymooned in breathtaking Costa Rica. We had been there once before, and I wanted to travel to their Caribbean Sea region. While there, we stayed at a boutique hotel owned by a lovely American couple that had moved from Florida to Costa Rica in the early 2000s. The hotel was intimate, blended in with the natural surroundings, and was close to several attractions. I looked at my husband one morning over breakfast and said “we could do this”. My husband being the good sport that he is, said what he always said “Whatever you want to do babe, I support you”.
